Being a wedding stylist could easily be compared to being a home staging consultant only instead of preparing a house for sale you are preparing a venue for a wedding. In the same way as the home staging consultant creates an environment that is conducive to pulling in potential buyers, a wedding stylist is creating a space that will make guests feel relaxed and happy, whilst reflecting the style of the couple getting married.
A stylist is all about aesthetics, producing the WOW factor and creating a personality for every wedding they are involved with. Each couple are different and have their own personalities and this needs to be reflected within the wedding. A stylist will help with the look and feel of the wedding including the guest experience, the colour scheme, the venue, the flowers, the linen and décor, table design and centrepieces, music and entertainment, invitations, lighting and overall ambience.
Many stylists will create inspiration boards with their client to ensure the entire wedding is cohesive and comes together to correctly reflect the bridal couple’s vision of their day.
Personality Requirements: Styling a wedding is the culmination of the work of many wonderfully creative and talented people who all specialise in different areas. As the stylist you need to have an eye for detail that allows you to subjectively look at all of these areas and see how well they all come together. Creativity is a must along with the ability to open your mind and let it roam free. Brainstorming powers are a necessary evil as is an aptitude for storytelling. A knack for working with different colours and being willing to experiment with them is an art you will need to hone. Resourcefulness, multi-tasking, drive, passion and a dash of craziness are all in the mix as well.
Quick Facts: Wedding styling is the combination of many skills such as window & set dressing, fashion design, merchandising & styling, interior design & décor and colour management. Event design will see you working with many different elements including:

- Lighting
- Entertainment, Signage, and Food
- Candles, Ice, Pyrotechnics
Education: As a relatively new field wedding styling doesn’t have any formal requirements to allow you to enter the industry, however this is not an industry you should enter without some form of qualification. Apart from anything else even those with natural abilities need to be shown the tricks of the trade, the unwritten rules, the do’s and don’ts and given the tools required in order to be a successful stylist. Our Diploma in Wedding Planning, Styling and Design allows you to discover unique and innovative ways to style and transform environments for all types of venues. The course is a fun blend of conceptualising, planning and production with lots of hands-on creativity. Students will look at how and where to find creative inspiration, design presentations ,sourcing materials, budgeting and event execution.
