We are very proud of our students and love to celebrate their successes and the things they’ve done. Many of them go on to launch successful businesses and it is very rewarding for us to showcase them here on our website.
Upon enrolment, my main goal was to launch my own business by the time I had completed the Diploma or soon after. I’d been toying with the idea of starting my own business for a few years now, but lacked the confidence to actually go ahead and make it happen. My top marks and the amazing feedback I received from my tutors and fellow students throughout the Diploma gave me the confidence boost I needed to launch my business!
The course helped me get to where I am today by boosting my confidence in my own abilities, broadening my knowledge and experience of the weddings industry, pushing my limits both creatively and mentally as well as providing me with vital information and guidance on how to set up and launch my own wedding business from scratch.
“I loved the Diploma in Wedding Planning, Styling and Design and I always looked forward to doing the assignments. The course really gave me a great insight into lots of different areas of the industry which I wouldn’t have had before. It also gave me the confidence to approach people and learn new ways to get clients.”
Holly was interviewed by Academy director, Kylie Carlson, and had some wonderful things to say about how her course has helped her in her business, which has since been re-branded and is now called Revelry Events.
“The course is exceptional in terms of the depth of knowledge that you receive and the up to date nature of the content, and I have first hand experience of other wedding planning courses – trust me they are not all kept up to date. When you contact your tutor they are enthusiastic and share examples with you of how they would approach a task and they are always there with support at the end of an e-mail.
The course and the Academy has given me the confidence to develop my dream job. Since enrolling I have published 3 eBooks on wedding planning, launched a wedding planning magazine app, been awarded the title “Best New Event Designer – Warwickshire” in the Wedding Industry Experts 2013 Awards, and been a regional finalist in the National Wedding Industry Awards 2013 and 2014. I firmly believe that I could not have achieved all of this without the support of Kylie, Zoe and the UKAWEP team.
“The course has helped me so much more than I actually anticipated. It was a lot more in depth than I imagined it would be and I still cant believe just how much I have learnt. I feel so much more confident in what i am doing due to everything I have learnt. I was also really happy with how much the course prepared me just not just creatively but also business wise. The business module was fantastic for teaching me exactly what I needed to do to get my business up and running. I feel fully confident and prepared for not only running the business, but also for all the creative & planning process that lies ahead.”
“I’ve always wanted to become a Wedding Planner and I feel lucky and blessed that I do what I dreamt of. Four years ago I had the chance to be introduced to a very famous agency that handles high-end weddings with Greek and international clientele and in some of these weddings I was assigned with great responsibilities -although I was an outsource employer- and for 2 ½ I was able to gain experience as on the day Coordinator.
Being an extrovert person with high organizational skills who wants to make sure that everything is under control makes the planning process look natural and easy to me.”
This course simply empowered me to do what I really love. So far I find it really practical, effective and in-depth. I am learning all aspects of wedding planning and design which will definitely help me in my future business. After having started the course, I was sure it was the best choice to fit who I am; an organised, creative, detail-driven woman passionate for making things cute.
Joanne has completed the Diploma in Wedding Planning, Styling and Design in February 2015 and has now launched her own business, One Day Your Day Weddings. Congratulations Joanne!
Here is what Joanne had to say about studying with the Academy:
“Styling and Designing is something I’m passionate about so I decided to take this passion up and use it within Wedding Planning. I have thoroughly enjoyed this course and have been extremely impressed of how in depth its is. Thank you Zoe for your support and help throughout.”
Sophia has graduated from the Diploma in Wedding Planning, Styling and Design and has now gone on to launch and run her own successful wedding planning business, Once Upon A Dream Weddings. Prior to launching her business Sophia was the wedding coordinator at Lanwades Hall, Newmarket which gave her some great experience prior to starting out on her own.
Here is what Sophia had to say about studying with the Academy. “This course has been fantastic. It’s been useful and informative as well as enjoyable, I’ve loved every module! It has offered practical tips for every aspect of the job and made me feel ready to take the next step with my work. Also really helpful has been the advice from Zoe my tutor. She’s given me such positive, helpful feedback throughout.”
“The course has been brilliant. I have already learnt so much and it shows in the way I have been managing my existing clients. They started off with hiring a venue dresser for the big day, but now have someone who understands their every need in the run up. Before beginning this course I really struggled with articulating my vision; I’m a very visual person and so always relied heavily on Pinterest.
However, since starting the course I have found it so much easier to verbally communicate my ideas, to my couples and prospective clients. I can already see how it is going to help me, to help them, manage their resources more effectively. ”
“The Academy isn’t just a course provider, they are genuinely interested in your progression and really help to get your name out there.
Online learning is what appealed to me most when I was looking into the course. I needed that flexibility and to be able to work at my own pace to fit around my day to day life. As well as that, it has kept me engaged and excited through the mixture of text, images, videos and podcasts – if you’re imagining pages and pages of boring text that is definitely not the case here and I can’t praise the way it has been put together enough! It’s always kept up to date too, which is obviously important in an industry that is always changing and evolving.”
It is always exciting for us when a student takes that leap of faith and either launches a business or joins an existing business and Sam is a great example of that. She is studying the Advanced Diploma of Special Event Planning and Design as part of her transition into her new career and in 2014 joined the team at Bespoke Weddings as Events Director.
Sam already has qualifications in Fashion Design and Fine Art and is looking to develop a career in Event and Wedding Planning.
I needed an online course that was flexible to suit me, without the pressure of deadlines. Online courses can seem like you’re on your own, but the Academy offers your own personal tutor, which is a great benefit when I am in need of help!
Each assignment I complete gives me another boost of confidence towards achieving my goal. I have been able to apply various aspects of the course to my full time job with noticeable improvements in my performance in terms of thinking outside of the box.
The course helps you realise more than you could have imagined. It has improved my confidence in my own ability helping me to discover my true potential.”
“I really enjoyed the Certificate in Wedding Planning and I feel that it covers all of the right areas that you need to know, especially if you are going to launch your own business as I am doing now). I loved the unit about social media and ways to promote your business.
I think particular highlights for me were creating different mood boards for various assignments and I loved creating them for the wedding project and for the work space. I had so much fun with it! And I am enjoying the recently launched Academy Live Facebook group (a private group for students and graduates). It is amazing to chat with other students, get helped and inspired.”
“I love that you can study wherever, whenever. I’m juggling the course along with my new business, a baby and finishing a Master’s degree! Also, studying something you love and getting into that flow state of mind is always rewarding and fun.
I want to learn everything and anything related to my field! In a way I also wanted to make sure I was qualified to start my own business, and getting accredited is a big mental stepping stone.”
“I have studied Wedding Planning, Styling and Design. It gave me so much! Starting from brilliant theoretical knowledge (all course material is like a bible to me, so useful to come back to it again and again), interesting assignments to make the practical use of the knowledge, supportive, inspiring tutors and the most wonderful fellow students I met during the course.
Honestly, all students are staying in touch and supporting each other a lot, sharing advice and experiences – it is just wonderful. I love that you can plan your study schedule yourself, depending on how much availability you have each day or week – so flexible and just perfect for all us still maintaining full, or part time jobs whilst starting out.”
“Studying with the academy has given me so much more confidence in myself and given me the confidence to push my boundaries. I lost a good friend suddenly just before I started and this gave me the push to purse my dream and my business has evolved from there.
The support we get online is astounding, not just from the tutors but also from fellow students around the world and the friendships and connections I have made are invaluable. I would tell people not to hesitate; life is to short, go for your dream.
Most of the images you see on our site have been created by a very talented team of wedding suppliers led by Louise of B.Loved who helped us to produce a styled shoot to showcase the training and education provided by the Academy.
July is the start of the summer and peak wedding season.
As well as working for the Academy I work mainly on marquee weddings with my own business www.cherishweddingplanning.co.uk and at this time of year they can be glorious, but there is always an uncertainty with the weather. I really enjoy my job, the flexibility to be my own boss and work with some lovely couples creating their dream day. I have learnt over the years that there are always ups and downs in any job, for me the ups far out way the downs.
So I thought I would tell you a little about the reality of the job.
I do spend quite a lot of time at my laptop, in the early days I had visions of being out and about more than I actually manage. There is quite a bit of paperwork and ‘to do’ lists but I enjoy that, as I like to be organised and work in an efficient manner. That part of the job is quite pleasureable to me as I get quite a bit of satisfaction from a job well done.
I do get out and about meeting new couples and I find the first meeting is the most interesting, to hear all their plans and start the journey with them. From that moment there can be quite a few changes of plans and last minute deadlines you need to encourage them to meet. They are inevitably not as organised as you would like and I have learnt to balance my pace and theirs in order to work harmoniously together.
I spend an awful lot of my time forward thinking and pre-empting all eventualities along the process to co-ordinating the final event. I really enjoy this but it is crucial that you don’t take things too personally or get frustrated by last minute changes of heart. I now take it all in my stride with a smile and re-assure them that we will always find a way to make all the elements work. There are many aspects to consider and they all require triple checking. This can be a repetitive part of the job but it is necessary to go over every angle with the suppliers, the budget and the venue in the run up to the event, it is your job to keep everything on track.
It is great arriving for the wedding day, especially if the sun is shining, and I thrive on being busy and seeing it all come together. It can be a high energy day and you may feel some stress so it is crucial that you are fully prepared. You do also have to be prepared to make quick decisions and be confident enough to take charge without being too imposing when working with other suppliers who all have their own important part to play.
So why not explore the industry further by taking one of our courses and getting great advice from our tutors, so that you could make the move into a job that you really enjoy.
